Farida Hughes was born in New York and grew up in a South-Asian Indian/German-American household in New Jersey.
Hughes studied art and English at Fordham University and obtained a graduate degree in visual art at the University of Chicago.
Her artworks have been exhibited nationally in venues such as the Delaware Contemporary Art Museum (Wilmington, DE), Asian Arts & Culture Center (Towson, MD), and the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (Milwaukee, WI). She has received grants from the Maryland State Arts Council and Minnesota State Arts Board. Her work has been featured in publications such as the Denver Post, Washington Post, and Baltimore Magazine. She recently completed a residency at the Vermont Studio Center.
Hughes currently resides in Baltimore County with her husband and two dogs, and maintains a studio in Baltimore City.
